The Ypres Salient was formed in late October 1914. An arc-shaped front formed around Ypres. Both armies dug in and fought from a continuous system of trenches and mine tunnels. From May 1915 to August 1917, the “Little Ypres Salient” remained virtually unchanged. Half a million soldiers from more than 50 nations lost their lives there. As a result, “The Salient” became one of the most notorious areas along the Western Front. On this bike tour, you’ll explore the front lines around Ypres.
