Wilde Rust

Welcome to Wilde Rust.

Leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life behind for a while and come enjoy the beauty of nature. In 1917, Wilde Rust was in no man’s land—but it has since come into our possession, without a shot fired. This marked the beginning of the renovation of our peaceful retreat, where—thanks to the lack of neighbors—you’re free to let your wild side out.

Come stay at our bed & breakfast and choose from our four ground-floor rooms, each with its own terrace or small garden (Water, Earth, Fire, Air), or the four-person apartment upstairs (Metal).

Wild(g)e Rust? Accessible hospitality at our bed & breakfast

Our rooms have been designed with an eye for aesthetics and universal design, and most are fully accessible to both pedestrians and wheelchair users. This way, we ensure that everyone can enjoy a vacation—from the elite triathlete who wants to swim in the swimming pond, conquer the Kemmelberg, or spend hours hiking in the woods, to people who need assistance from a hoist for transfers from bed to bath, so they can save their energy to also discover what Ypres and the surrounding area have to offer in terms of nature and culture.

There are 4 double rooms on the ground floor:

  • 1 with two 90-cm electrically adjustable beds, a patient lift, a bathtub, a bench in the shower, an extended toilet, and an electrically adjustable sink
  • 3 with an 180-cm bed, a barrier-free shower (2 of which also have a bench), and an electrically adjustable sink
  • with direct access to the garden or terrace
  • via a hallway to a shared living area and a wheelchair-accessible kitchen
  • Additional: 2 small restrooms, 1 large restroom with shower and wheelchair-accessible changing table

The four-person unit upstairs offers:

  • 2 bedrooms with 160-cm beds
  • 1 restroom
  • bathroom with sink and walk-in shower
  • very spacious living area with open kitchen

Good to know:

  • Free parking
  • electric charging station
  • No smoking due to the nature reserve, children, and guests with asthma (and, of course, to prevent fires)
  • Children are welcome (travel crib available upon request; ponds are fenced—adult supervision is always required, of course)
  • Service dogs are welcome; pets are not

A place to dream and recharge

Sometimes a place crosses your path that feels too big for your means, but too special to let go of. For us, Inge Blockmans and Cosie Goudesone, the estate where we’ve established WildeRust was exactly that. After a three-year search, we fell irrevocably in love with this unique spot in the valley. We felt: this isn’t just a house—it’s a calling. An invitation to take the leap, let our dreams take flight, and create a place where others can come home to their own bodies and to nature.

Wheelchair accessibility was an absolute must during our renovation. During our travels, we often encounter barriers that hinder Inge’s independence as a woman, partner, and mother who uses a wheelchair—barriers that also place a heavy burden on Cosie; even a triathlete needs to be able to truly relax completely every now and then. Everyone should be able to travel, unwind, and connect with nature—as much as possible on their own terms. With our space, we want to show that accessibility and aesthetics can go hand in hand—a little more at a time. It takes creativity and perseverance—eternal thanks to the many volunteers who helped make this a reality!

While Inge is usually the “calm” part of WildeRust, you can generally think of Cosie as the “wild” one. With a body bursting with energy, he often goes out to exercise and knows the most beautiful trails by heart. Inge often joins him on these trips but has a knack for quickly forgetting the routes and being struck time and again by the beautifully winding roads, the twisted tree, the gigantic Caterpillar mine crater where you can often spot deer, and so on. Need tips on the most scenic bike route to Ypres’s Grote Markt, 8 km away? Or how to get to Bellewaerde through the woods? Look for Cosie after work, with his hands in the dirt or the water. Meanwhile, his little son Flor is discovering the world, climbing through the bushes, running after Figaro the cat, dancing with Inge as she searches for the right music for her dance workshops or therapy sessions, or sitting in the grass, fascinated by what he sees, hears, smells, and tastes.

WildeRust? Then come to our peaceful spot, and it’ll drive you completely wild...
