During World War I, Ypres suffered greatly and soon many historic buildings were shattered into formless masses of rubble. But the town was rebuilt and today the belfry and Gothic St. Martin's Cathedral - recognized as World Heritage - once again adorn the townscape.
Through "medieval" alleys and shady city parks, the city walking tour guides you past stately mansions and past monumental city gates and fortresses.
