Program - Ypres

Wednesday, November 11

  • 08.45 a.m. - Commemoration French cemetery St. Charles de Potyze
  • 9:15 a.m. - Service in St. Georges Memorial Church
  • 9:30 a.m. - Eucharist in St. Martin's Cathedral
  • 10:20 a.m. - Poppy Parade led by Ypres Surrey Pipes & Drums
  • 10:30 a.m. - Ceremony at the Belgian Monument
  • 11:00 a.m. - Ceremony and Last Post under the Menin Gate (by invitation only)
  • 11.30 a.m. - Unrolling the peace flag
  • 12.30 p.m. - West Yorkshire Police Band performance on the Grand Place (to be confirmed)
  • 2 p.m. - Carillon concert by Ludo Geloen
    Best place to listen: Grote Markt or Vandepeereboomplein.
  • 14:30 - Guided walk: civilian victims (to be confirmed)
  • 5 p.m. - Concert The Great War Remembered
  • 8 p.m. - Daily Last Post under the Menin Gate (open to all)

Practical

  • Parking on November 11 is free in Ypres. Keep in mind that the city center will be parking free from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.. Use the peripheral parking lots to get to Ypres on foot afterwards.
    When doing so, avoid the area around the Menin Gate and use the Poterne Bridge when parking in the Sports Hall/Leopold III Avenue area.
  • Parking in the Janseniusstraat and Sint-Maartensplein are reserved for invited guests. Only those with an official parking permit can use these parking spaces.
  • Parking for persons with disabilities: Surmont de Volsberghestraat - zone near the Astrid Park. The parking zone is indicated by temporary signage.
    Place the blue parking ticket clearly on the dashboard of the car.
  • The ceremony will be broadcast live on VRT 1.
    A screen is placed on the Grote Markt to best view the ceremony under the Menin Gate.

  • 15.30 - Commemoration Irish Cross and St. John's
  • 8 p.m. - Last Post under the Menin Gate
  • 20.45 hrs - November 11 Lecture

Thursday 12 November

  • 11:00 a.m. - Ceremony at the Indian Monument (at the top of the Menin Gate)

Boezinge

10.45 a.m. - Gathering at the monument
10.50 a.m. - Reflection on behalf of the veterans of Boezinge and Zuidschote
10.55 a.m. - Evocation by pupils of Boezinge elementary school
11.00 a.m. - Wreath laying by the civil authorities

Dikkebus

09.00 a.m. - Gathering in 't Kobbetje with brass band, associations, fire department, school children
09.45 h - Procession to the church followed by celebration of the Eucharist
10 a.m. - Memorial mass with texts from the diary of Achiel van Walleghem.
10.45 a.m. - Flower tribute at war memorial and cemetery

Elverdinge

10.30 a.m. - Memorial service/prayer in the church
Afterwards: Procession to the War Memorial on the d'Ennetièresquare, led by the KHSC Elverdinge.
11 a.m. - Siren wailing, 1 minute of silence - hymns - wreath laying.
Then: Procession to the memorial plaque for victims of the First World War.

Hollebeke / Zillebeke

08.45 a.m. - departure for flower tribute

  • Tributes of flowers at the monument of the victims of war
  • Flower tribute to the monument of General Strzelczyk in the Wervikstraat
  • Hill 60: Flower tribute to the Monument of the French Resistance Fighters
