The medieval stories of Ypres are less known, but definitely worth exploring.
Find out where in the city you can soak up the atmosphere of this fascinating and thriving Ypres period.
1. The Yper Museum
The Yper Museum brings you eleven centuries of Ypres and the Westhoek. You will discover a unique collection of badges, maps, archaeological finds, coins, lace and handicrafts and so much more. Children can literally sit right in the middle of medieval Ypres thanks to the giant model of the city. The bracelet with cat's paw makes your visit to the Yper Museum a personal and playful experience.
Extra: Go on a cat hunt before or after your visit. This playful quest in the city center shows you things you can also discover in the museum. Cost is 2.50 euros per participant and after playing you will receive a gift for each purchased Cat Hunt.
2. Remains from the Middle Ages
After the First World War, Ypres was completely rebuilt. The Ypres people did so faithfully to their history and in this way ensured that the medieval character of the city was put forward.
So the buildings were built in the 20th century, but still demonstrate the medieval grandeur of Ypres.
