Bike tour: the flat and watery Ypres
- Departure/bike rental: 25 kilometers - 4 hours
- Guide: € 160,00
- Bring your own bikes or bike rental
We follow a very flat route of about 25 km. In it we highlight the economic, ecological and even military role that "water" plays and has played in and around Ypres.
Through the eastern fortifications we reach Zillebekevijver, for centuries and still today of great importance for the supply of drinking water. Further on, we ride along the old Ypres-Komen canal (or how an economic failure became an ecological asset) and also reach the Ypres Lake Canal.
At Essex Farm Cemetery we tell about the medical aid station where John McCrae wrote the famous poem "In Flanders Fields" in 1915.
Via the Boezinge lock we return to Ypres with a short stop at 'Carrefour des Roses' (first gas attack) or a short visit to the Yorkshire Trench (British deep dugout and trenches).

This bicycle tour takes a more undulating route. Via the fortifications and the Bijlanderpad, the guide leads cyclists to the provincial domain De Palingbeek. Through beautiful bike paths, the tour continues to the Polygoonbossen in Zonnebeke. After a stop the way back to Ypres is started. The route runs over 30 kilometers.
