A house with a story
We welcome you to our vacation home "The Chaplain of Dikkebus". The name of the house refers to Achiel Van Walleghem, chaplain of Dikkebus at the outbreak of the First World War. He gained fame for his diaries in which he meticulously described war events in the area. His diaries grew to become the most important civilian source about the war in the Ypres arc.
Living and experiencing the Westhoek
The Great War is never far away, not even in the immediate vicinity of our vacation home. But the Westhoek has so much more to offer for all ages. Think of the unique hilly landscape where walking is a pleasure for everyone, the musical experience at the annual Dranouter festival, flaming engines during the Ypres Rally, fun in Bellewaerde Park, folklore during the Ypres Cat procession and tradition during the blowing of the Last Post, culinary delights in many restaurants and so much more ... In short, a region that lives, intrigues and plays on all your senses, every season of the year.
An authentic setting
Our vacation house offers an excellent base for exploring the region, on foot, by bicycle or by car. It was built in 1923 and was originally a convent of the local nuns. This is still evident from details in the house, such as the floor of the room that served as a chapel. Both the old house and the garden still breathe the atmosphere of yesteryear, which we want to preserve, while maintaining all the comforts for our guests to ensure a pleasant stay.
Starting point by bike or on foot
The house is centrally located in the village of Dikkebus south of the city of Ypres, in a very quiet street offering immediate access to walking and cycling networks. At less than 100 m you will also find all the necessary amenities to make your stay as comfortable as possible: bakery, butcher, grocery store, local café, chip shop.... In short, Flanders in miniature.
Relax and dream away
Since 2014, at De Kapelaan van Dikkebus, we welcome all those who, like us, want to discover the Westhoek and get to know its inhabitants, enjoy going out with friends and family for a relaxed and convivial weekend or a satisfying vacation, and enjoy the small pleasures of life. The region and its history will stick with you once you have been there. WHAT TO WAIT FOR? Well, we hope that we have been able to warm you up for a stay in our vacation house, or at least for a stay in the Westhoek. Come and experience what makes this region so fascinating!
