De Kapelaan van Dikkebus

A house with a story

We welcome you to our holiday home “De Kapelaan van Dikkebus”. The name of the house refers to Achiel Van Walleghem, chaplain of Dikkebus at the outbreak of the First World War. He gained fame for his diaries, in which he meticulously described the events of the war in the area. His diaries became the most important civilian source about the war in the Ypres Salient.

Experience and discover the Westhoek

The Great War is never far away, not even in the immediate vicinity of our holiday home. But the Westhoek offers so much more for all ages. Think of the unique hilly landscape, where walking is a pleasure for everyone, the musical experience at the annual Dranouter festival, roaring engines during the Ypres Rally, endless fun at Bellewaerde Park, folklore during the Ieper Kattenstoet and tradition at the sounding of the Last Post, culinary delights in numerous restaurants and so much more… In short, a region that lives, intrigues and stimulates all your senses, every season of the year.

An authentic setting

Our holiday home offers an excellent base to explore the region, on foot, by bike or by car. It was built in 1923 and was originally a convent. This is still evident in details within the house, such as the floor of the room that once served as a chapel. Both the old house and the garden still breathe the atmosphere of yesteryear, and we wish to preserve this, while ensuring all comforts for our guests to guarantee a pleasant stay.

Base for cycling or walking

The house is centrally located in the village of Dikkebus, south of the city of Ypres, in a very quiet street that provides immediate access to walking and cycling networks. Within less than 100 meters, you will also find all the necessary amenities to make your stay as comfortable as possible: bakery, butcher, grocer, local pub... In short, Flanders in miniature.

Relax and dream away

Since 2014, we have welcomed everyone to De Kapelaan van Dikkebus who, like us, wants to discover the Westhoek and get to know its inhabitants, loves to go out with friends and family for a carefree and cosy weekend or a restorative holiday, and enjoys the small pleasures of life. The region and its history will stick with you once you've been here. SO, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? Well, we hope we have sparked your interest for a stay in our holiday home, or at least for a trip to the Westhoek. Come and experience for yourself what makes this region so fascinating!
